Nelson Makes 269
Against Manawatu (New Zealand Press Association) NELSON. January 1. Manawatu had scored 79 runs for the loss of two wickets at stumps in the Hawke Cup challenge match which opened at Nelson today. Nelson, the holders, who are defending the trophy for the first time since winning it from Waikato, made a first innings total, of 269. The features of the Nelson innings were a solid knock of 73 by the lefthander I. Ching and a determined 48 by L. Reads. C. Campbell, a West Indian who is studying at Massey College, took three wickets for 69 runs and B. Yuile, a secondary school boy, finished with three for 36. «
