Sound Trial At Wingatui “The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, December 19. Sound trials by Imitation, Smart, Bow Tie, Black Star, and Blue Count and bright sprint efforts by Promise and Hearth Rug were features of the track work at Wingatui yesterday morning. Fog prevented some of the early trials being timed. The course proper was slightly Slippery at first, but improved later in the morning when the weather cleared. The plough was in good order. One of the best trials on the outside of the course proper was that of the stablemates, Smart (J. D. Pankhurst) and Bow Tie (E. G. Low), who were together over six furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssec, the first three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Smart is a candidate for the Christmas Handicap, and Bow Tie will run in the mile December Handicap. Eased Up Tripped (P. Wilde) went over the same ground in lmin 23 l-ssec. The Defaulter mare ran the opening three furlongs in 39sec„ but was eased up over the concluding stages. Blue Count (W. Gibbs) had a length to spare from Imitation (E. G. Low) at the end of seven furlongs, but it was a grand work-out on the part of Imitation, which is usually a sluggish runner. They ran the first half-mile in 51 2-ssec and completed the distance in lmin 35 2-ssec. Waterfall (W. Gibbs) recorded a smart half-mile In 51sec, the opening furlong in 12 3-ssec. The maiden gallopers. Student (R. Crowe) and Callamara (W. Gibbs), took 54 3-ssec the first furlong in 13 2-ssec. Madame Curie (A. I. Powell) and Matlock (R. J. Skelton) covered half a mile in 55sec. the first furlong in 13 2-ssec.
