LIEUTENANT-COLONEL R. A. TINKER, who arrived in Christchurch yesterday to become chief of staff, Southern Military District. He won the Military Medal and the Military Cross during the 1939-45 war, and later he was created an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his service in Malaya, where he commanded the Ist Battalion, Fiji Military Forces, in action against the terrorists. His last appointment was camp commandant at Papakura.
