TOUR SHIP TO ANTARCTIC
Chilean Venture In February
New Zealand has lost RearAdmiral George .J. Dufek’s challenge to be the first country to send a tourist ship to the Antarctic.
Chile will open the Antarctic to tourists on a very small scale early in February, when a ship with 72 passengers will make a week’s visit to Chile’s Antarctic bases—opposite Cape Horn. According to a report in “The New York Times,” air excursions to the interior are being considered. Requests for tickets have been heavy, even though the details of the trip have not been settled. The ship will sail from Valparaiso. with a brief stay at Punta Arenas, at fhe Strait of Magellan, which calls itself the southernmost city of the world
Two years ago, the Chilean airline flew non-stop round trips to O’Higgins Base with great success.
