Australian Elections
Sir,—Does “M.N.R.” really believe that the benefits he enjoys under democracy based on Christian principles would be increased if we adopted atheistic Communism? He is easily hoodwinked. Only the heads of State would benefit and the average man would know that he would never own any property. But the selfish nature of every man would never allow him to be satisfied under such a system. We have heard of the diabolical way the Communists dealt with those who opposed them through Europe and China. In Australia their methods are less obvious. New Zealanders and Australians should not sign away their nine-teen-century-old Christian heritage under which the individual rights of man are respected. God gave us Ten Commandments which must be obeyed. Within the Christian moral and social code we must try to improve our lot. Take away all knowledge, love and respect for God and what is left? Despair, ignorance, and lies.—Yours, etc.,
CHRISTIAN. December 10, 1958.
