There »u at least one spectator at a contest in which Charles O’Rourke entered who did not think much of the champion axemen's ability. In 1805 O’Rourke won a £lOO chop off scratch after giving away quite a lot of time and he was being acclaimed for his feat when an elderly woman, undoubtedly of Irish origin, was heard to remark loudly: “No credit to the big fellow. The other boys were tired when he started.”
