At Its Worst
The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Mathison) arrived by air to look at Onerahi aerodrome on Tuesday, but pouring rain forced him to go back to Auckland by road. His flight was cancelled. Mr Mathison’s secretary (Mr S Thompson) and a Civil Aviation Administration expert, Mr J. Loftus, intended to return to• Wellington and Mr Mathison was to fly on to Christchurch, where he was to have attended a meeting. Mr Mathison discussed with members of the Whangarei Airport Board, the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce and the Whangarei Borough Council a wide scope of problems associated with the aerodrome’s future. “You have arrived on a perfect day for seeing our airport at its worst,” the Mayor and airport board chairman (Mr J. F. Johnson) told Mr Mathison. “I think we have learnt more about Onerahi than we knew before,” Mr Mathison said with a smile.—(P.A.)
