Dr. A. Y. Helmi To Visit City ’ The Indonesian Ambassador to . Australia (Dr. Alfior Yusuf : Helmi) will arrive in Christchurch ’ on Saturday. On Saturday evening he will speak, show coloured slides, and t play tape-recorded Indonesian music at a reception organised by Indonesian Colombo Plan students in the city and the Christchurch branch of the United Na- - tions Association. s On Monday morning he will be s guest at a civic reception to be > held by the Mayor (Mr G. Man--3 ning). Born in Sumatra in 1912, Dr. - Helmi was educated at Scots Coli lege in Palestine and the Amerii can University at Beirut. He graduated from Istanbul Unlver--1 sity in economics in 1944 and » joined the Economics Department . of the Netherlands East Indies > Government at Brisbane in 1945, j but only there a few I months. j After joining the Indonesian j Foreign Office as head of economic affairs, he led a diplomatic miss sion to Turkey. He has been in t charge of Balkan, Middle East, and European affairs. . Dr. Helmi became Minister to , Switzerland in 1951 and Ambassador to Australia in 1956.
