In one comer, workmen are busy constructing a narrow passageway to the underground shelter below the school. The children are drilled (right) in “scramble-for-shelter” techniques which they use on the odd dates when the guns open fire. They wait until they hear the first shell screech over the island; then they rush for cover in the shelters.
