‘Food For Peace’ Programme
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) ST. PAUL (Minnesota), Dec. 10. Senator Hubert Humphrey (Democrat Minnesota) called yesterday for' a “food for peace programme’" to counter the Soviet Union’s plans for world economic supremacy. Senator Humphrey, who returned to the United States this week after touring Europe, told farmers that the United States must use its agricultural production “as an enormous arsenal for free mankind.” He said' food surpluses should not be considered a nuisance, but as an asset to the free world. The United States bulging food basket gives us a weapon the Soviet Union does not even dream of having seven years from now.”
