JAPAN’S TOY EXPORTS Australia Urges Restraint

(Rec. 8.30 pm.) CANBERRA. December 10.

The Australian Government has asked Japan to exercise restraint in its exports of some goods to Australia.

It is understood the request covers exports of Japanese-made toys.

A Department of Trade spokesman said the request was in accordance with the terms of the Australia-Japan trade agreement. Several similar requests had been made since the agreement came into operation more than a year ago.

Continuing reviews of Australian trade on a departmental level have shown that imports of Japanese toys have reached a level which might threaten Australian toy manufacturers. The toy situation is at present being investigated by the Government’s adviser on the Austra-lia-Japan trade agreement (Mr McCarthy). Left Baby Lying In Road (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, December 10.
