Three-Legged Stag Shot
o (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Dec. 10. A three-legged stag was recently shot by a Raetihi stalker, Mr S. Coleman, near the boundary of the Tongariro National Park at Horopito. A back leg was missing from the style joint. The injury appeared to be very old, for skin and hair were so well grown over the stump as to suggest that the animal could have been born without the limb. This is the third three-legged deer reported from the Tongariro National Park area in the last two years. Mr Coleman previously shot a hind so maimed near Pukeonake, and Mr J. Mitchell shot a stag with a leg missing, near Mount Hauhangatahi. The damaged bone from the stag recetly shot by Mr Coleman is to, be sent to a naturalist.
