TABLE TENNIS
Levy Proposed On Clubs (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. December 9. A proposal to ensure that the New Zealand Table Tennis Association had sufficient funds to send teams overseas on an average of at least once every four years and to enable it to assist coaching and promote international tours was placed before last night's meeting of the New Zealand executive. The proposal, submitted on behalf of the finance committee by the convener (Mr H. N. Ballinger) and adopted as a recommendation to the annual meeting next April 17 and 18. places a levy on clubs which would, based on present registration, give the New Zealand Association an annual income of at least £lOOO. Mr Ballinger mentioned that the proposed participation of a New Zealand women’s team in the world championships at Dortmund, Germany, in April, had fallen through because of lack of finance. He proposed that each of New Zealand’s 757 clubs be levied £1 a year, plus a levy of 2s fid a team, up to a maximum of four teams, which would lift the New Zealand levy maximum to £1 10s. The meeting approved the Auckland association’s request to hold the national championships, interassociation matches, and the North v. South (men’s and women’s) matches, between August 29 and September 4 inclusive. “Player of the Year” The New Zealand table tennis champion, R. V. Jackson, of Auckland, has been awarded the “New Zealand Player of the Year” trophy. It is the third, although not consecutive. time Jackson has been so honoured by the executive of the -association, which makes the award. Last year’s winner was Miss M. M. Hoar, of Auckland.
