“End Of Shortage Long Way Off” (New Zealand Press Associations AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. The end of the housing shortage in New Zealand wasga long way off, said the Minister of Housing (Mr Fox) in Auckland tonight. He added that the building industry was expanding to meet the increased demand for houses. “Progress is being made with the housing drive,” he said, “and with the co-operation of all concerned in the industry, we intend to continue this progress as quickly as possible until there is at least an adequate number of houses to fill the normal demand.” Loan authorisations by the State Advances Corporation in Auckland for seven months to October 31 this year numbered 1901 for a total of £4,503,100, compared with 1222 loans totalling £2,593,000 in the same period last year. The figures for the whole of New Zealand over the same periods were 6462 and £15,150,145 this year against 4343 and £9,393,730 last year.
