Praise By Canterbury Farmer Disagreement with Mr R. C. Webb’s criticism of American hotels and staffs was expressed yesterday by Mr W. A. Smith, or Rakaia. who was in the United States in July. Mr Smith spoke highly of the service given in hotels and of the helpfulness of staffs. “I have travelled through the United States twice and was last there in July on my way back to New Zealand from a visit to Britain and the Continent,” said! Mr Smith. “I travelled by plane' and in 14 days stayed at eight! I hotels. They were all in different! (States of America and were mostly! Palm House hotels. The service! was the best. “The cost was five dollars a room a person. That was with-1 out meals. These hotels had five dining-rooms or rather places where you could get something to eat—dining-rooms and coffee rooms and restaurants, all at diferent prices to suit the public.” Mr Smith said there were television sets in the hotel bedrooms.
