AUTHOR AT LUNCHEON
! Elfrida Vipont Entertained Flfrida Vipont, the well-known author of children’s novels now visiting Christchurch, was entertained a: luncheon yesterday by the Canterbury Federation of Country Womens Institutes. Guests included representatives of the North Canterbury and Canterbury East federations and two members of the Dominion federation. Mesdames Rennie, and M Davis. After lunch Miss Vipont attended a meeting of the C.W.I Centre and gave a talk on the Yealand Women's Institute, Lancashire. of which she is presider.: She told members about an exhibition her institute had held a: Yealand in 1951—Festival of Britain year—and discussed some of the exhibits which included a wedding dress made by a bride for berse.lf in 1830. and another bridal gown made by a member of the institute for her o'.vn wedding in 1951. Miss Vipont. who is also a member of the Associated Country Women of the World, spoke of the importance of motherhood and c-t women’s role in world oe She sar.c ur.accompanied lullabie* of Scotland, the Pyrenees, and Sicily.
Shirley Women’s Lexf-oe. —In a hall brightly decorated with flowers and Christmas emblems.. Mrs H C. L» Prucen welcomed a large number of members, friends and representatives cf womens organisations in the district to the Shirley branch of the League cf Mothers’ break-up party. Entertainment was given by the league choir and drama group Mrs J. Cossms sang and Mrs C. Y eatm ar. gave a recitation. Mesdames A. Baxter and Pradez read thought' for the evening.
