AUSTRALIAN WOOL SALES

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, November 19. The Melbourne Woolbrokers’ Association reported a 98 per cent, clearance of the 16,000 bales offered at today’s sale. There w v a good selection, covering some finer and better types than previously submitted at Mel- ' bourne this season. Today’s rates were similar to those ruling earlier this week. There, was strong competition from both Eastern and Western Europe, with good support from Britain and local mills. The em- , phasis was on comebacks and fine ; crossbreds, for which strong Japanese competition was 1 evident.. Crossbred prices were: Good 60s, 65d; good 565, 564 d: good 50s, 544 d. Brisbane Sale Values generally were un- ' changed on yesterday’s and today’s Brisbane wool sales, according to the report of the Brisbane Woolselling Brokers’ Association. There was a full clearance. Japan and the Continent dominated, with useful support from Britain. Competition was well sustained throughout. The offering again reflected adverse seasonal conditions throughout the state. The heavy grass content in many clips ■ was more apparent than for some I years. * 1
