N.Z. TRADE WITH FIJI
Fall In Export Of ’ Beef The high prices now being ! secured in North America for New Zealand beef have adversely ! affected New Zealand’s meat . trade with Fiji, says the Novem- , ber issue of “Export News.” I In spite of attachments to wellknown New Zealand brands of ; i tinned beef and mutton, some Fiji buying has been diverted to Ausi tralia. and also to canned fish from South Africa and the United Kingdom. A substantial proportion of Fiji’s imports of canned moat hitherto came from New Zealand. and almost the whole of her frozen meat imports. New Zealand still supplies almost all the butter which is imported by Fiji, although the greater portion of Fiji's butter requirements comes from two local dairy companies, the publication says. Imports of canned and dried ! milk, however, are substantial. < . the trade being shared by New ' • Zealand and Australia. i Ghee, a pure butterfat which jmeets Indian tastes, is widely used in Fiji, and New Zealand ! supplies about two-thirds of a I quite substantial trade. I Ice cream is marketed in Fiji. ;by a branch of a New Zealand! 1 firm.
