TEACHING OF SCIENCE
New Position Created “The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, November 12. A former school teacher has been appointed to a new post created by the Education Department to intensify science teaching throughout New Zealand. He is Mr C. C. Roberts, at present a senior inspector for post-primary schools in Auckland. The Education Department feels that, in these days of rapid technological ami scientific development, there is a need for a more comprehensive science programme to be taught in the primary schools, especially in forms I and 11. * It has, therefore, given Mr Roberts the task of organising science teaching programmes for these forms. Part of Mr Roberts’s duties will be to examine the special requirement of science for students such as those who are not going on to more academic studies. He will also conduct special “in service” courses in science for teachers. Mr Roberts will be attached to the Wellington office of the department. but for the next two years will work in the Auckland province.
