NEW FERTILISER WORKS
Construction In Bay Of Islands
(New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, Nov. 12.
A definite decision to build a fertiliser works on a site between Kawakawa and Opua has been made, the chairman of the Bay of Islands County Council (Mr C. F. Jones) told the Minister of Works (Mr Watt) at Kawakawa this afternoon.
He said he had been given freedom to announce the decision by a representative of the three fertiliser companies which propose to build the works.
Mr Jones asked Mr Watt to consider realigning and developing the road between Kawakawa and Opua to serve the fertiliser works and the port. The chairman of the Bay of Islands Harbour Board (Mr A. Riddell) said it was felt that if Mr Watt could get a road to the fertiliser works site, they would see a structure under way within two years.
