Blind Man Wins Prize For Ceramics
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 12. The winner of a prize for ceramics at the Central Technical College, Petone, this year is a blind man, Mr H. A. Wilkinson. At the college’s closing ceremony tonight, Mr Wilkinson’s son accepted the prize for his father, who is attending a conference in Auckland. Mr Wilkinson is a blind welfare officer.
The first landings at the South Pole this season will begin on Sunday. They will bo made by ski-equipped Neptune aircraft flying in pairs. The flight on November 16 will take six United States Navy men and six I.G.Y. staff. On November 18 three Navy and two I.G.Y. men will be flown in. These 17 will relieve the 18 who have spent almost a year at the AmundsenScott South Pole station. A pair of Neptunes will make a third > flight on November 25 to take M in equipment which cannot be ■ air-dropped.
