Mr Holyoake Tries Hula Hoop
(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, November 12.
The Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holyoake) is one of the newest converts to the current hula hoop craze. But he said that his efforts so far have been rather abortive. He said he arrived home in Wellington from part of his northern tour last week expecting to find a hula hoop in the house. “And sure enough there was my 12-year-old daughter, Keitha, learning how to do it?’ he said. Two surprised National Party officials arrived at Mr Holyoake’s home to find him with the hoop round his ankles. “But I haven't yet given up hope of mastering the art,” he said with a smile.
