Talk To Disabled Servicemen
“We are keeping abreast of the need for modern development in artificial limb fitting in New Zealand.” said the factory supervisor of the Wellington limb factory (Mr A. Thompson) when he gave an illustrated talk on artificial limb production in New Zealand to members of the Disabled Servicemen’s Re-Estab-lishment League.
Last year Mr Thompson toured the United States. Canada, and the United Kingdom. In these countries he learned much about the production of artificial limbs, he said. He found that New Zealand-constructed limbs, compared quite favourably with those built overseas Most American artificial limbs were made from wood, he said. This was because there were few metalworkers in the United States. A film entitled “Are Your Hands Tied?” was shown. The film was about a working day in the life cd an American with both arms amputated. (
