Milking Shorthorn
The second largest section was the milking Shorthorn with 61 entries. The judge was Mr W. McGowan, of Waiuku. F. W. Allan’s Grey Valley Cherry was the championship cow and the reserve championship went to H. D. Hurford’s Greystone Lady Dotteral. The championship bull award went to M. A. Peach's Millbrook Dairyman Duke and A. P. Smith’s Wheatstone Airman was awarded the reserve championship. Hereford “D. W. Morrow’s champion Hereford bull. Glen Leskan 4th. is as fine a Hereford as I have! ever seen at the Christchurch show,” said the judge (Mr T.i Davies). “He is good everywhere —a splendid head. level in the back, good bone deep and wide, and extremely deep and wcllfleshod. For a bull of his age he is an outstanding animal.” Mr Davies said he congratulated Mr Morrow, the sole exhibitor in the Hereford classes, for his efforts in improving the breed "tremendously” in Canterbury. Commenting on the number of entries in this section, five. Mr Davies said: “It’s a pity there are.not more entries. I hope in the future there will be a bit of competition for Mr Morrow.”
