State House Rents
Sir, —In reply to “Fair Play,” I do not like paying more rent any more than he does. But I would sooner pay 12s more than the 30s (at least) more that the National Government would have charged under the provisions of the Fair Rents Act as amended by it. If “Fair Play” does not like that act which makes conditions so much tougher for the tenant, why does he so palpably support the party that so amended it? At least the Labour Party is not operating its full provisions. My statement about increased rates and maintenance costs are consistent with what Mr Nash said at the time the National Party decided to raise State house rentals as from April 1, 1958. What Mr Fox said I don’t know.—Yours, etc., . _ _ A.F.P. October 23, 1958.
