Canterbury East Federation Although the Canterbury East Federation of Country Women’s Institutes was. formed 18 months ago it has made considerable progress in that time, says the halfyearly report which will be presented at the federation's council meeting at Lakeside next day.Members have undertaken to help with the sale of Health Stamps in December. The Ellesmere group recently held a spring show at Lakeside. Dressmaking and millinery classes have been held for members by Miss R. Robins at Irwell. This group sponsors a child under the Save the Children Fund. The Springs-Paparua group sponsors two children. Dressmaking classes are being held at Springston South. Among the activities reported by the Peninsula group was an all-day meeting of the O’Kain's Bay. attended by Mrs M. Prebble, president of the federation. Mr Colin Keay gave a talk on nuclear science. Mrs Prebble represented the federation at the Dominion conference of Country Women’s Institutes. The housekeepers' scheme has entailed a tremendous amount of work for Mrs Prebble and the federation extends its deep gratitude to her, the report says. “With the Canterbury and Canterbury North federations we were responsible for the entertainment and supper at one of . the evening functions of the . A.C.W.W. conference,” the report says. Founder’s Day will be held on ' February 15. The Rice Bowl and the Town Hall promotion Appeals i are commended to members.
