GATHERING AT ARTHUR’S PASS
Farewell To Park Ranger Appropriately decorated with ekia, ski-sticks, and ice-axes, the Railway Social Hall at Arthur’s Pass was crowded on Saturday evening for the farewell presentation to Mr R. W. Cleland, who has been ranger at the pass for more than eight years, and senior rangpr for the last two years. Sportsmen, travellers, and local residents attended. Presentations were made to Mr Cleland by Mr I. Mclnley, on behalf of the Arthur’s Pass Railway Social Club and permanent residents; Mr L. F. Gough, on behalf of cottage owners, sports dubs, the Arthur’s Pass chapel committee, and the Arthur’s Pass School Committee; and Mr A. C. Perry, on behalf of the Automobile Association. The Railway Social Club presented Mr Cleland with a leather overnight travelling bag. The Automobile Association presented him with a cheque. “As a token of goodwill and in appreciation of kindness and hospitalty extended to owners of holiday homes and other visitors to Arthur’s Pass,” said the card accompanying the cheque from cottage owners and sports clubs.
