Churches Celebrate Anniversaries
About 80 or 90 members of the Linwood Congregational Church went on a bus trip yesterday around Christchurch and had afternoon tea at Ouruhia. This excursion was part of the arrangements for the church’s seventy-fifth anniversary. On Saturday a conversazione and afternoon tea were held in the church grounds in Leyden street, and about 100 guests, including the Mayor (Mr Manning), Mrs Manning, and the chairman of the Congregational Church Union of New Zealand (the Rev. M. Taylor), attended the anniversary dinner. Reminiscences of older members of the parish and a jubilee concert were held on Saturday evening as part of the fiftieth anniversary of St. David's Presbyterian Church, Hornby. In the afternoon, tea and sports for the children were held.
