SAND AND SHINGLE DELIVERIES

Goods Licence Now Necessary (New Zealand Press Associationi WELLINGTON, September 26. Dealers, contractors and others engaged in the transport of gravel, sand arid metal, and who sell these commodities at a delivered price are now required to obtain a goods service licence under the Transport Act, said the Minister of Transport (Mr Mathison) today. “In most cases, the amount added to the ex pit price for delivery is a transport charge,” he said, “and the strong competition for this work has made it desirable for these services to be controlled under the Transport Act.”

Mr Mathison said that in so regulating competition it was felt that the financial ability of all those engaged in this cartage would be strengthened and employment maintained. “Any person may still carry sand, gravel and metal for use on his own property without a transport licence,” he said, “and loaded trucks weighing not more than 2| tons are also excluded Jn addition, the new provisions do not apply to trucks owned by the Crown, the National Roads Board or by local bodies.”
