HYDATIDS CONTROL IN NORTHLAND

Eradication Expected In Few Years

(New Zealana Press Association/ WHANGAREI, Sept. 26. Control of hydatids in farm animals could be complete in NorthLand within a short time—at most,

a few years—if the present interest and co-operation are continued. This is the view of the recently-appointed superintendent of hydatid control (Mr A. D. G. M. Laing), who was in Whangarei today at the end of a fiveday tour of Northland. “There are gaps in the area, but interest is kindling and it should"; not be long before some of them, at least, are filled,” he said.

He was pleased with awareness of the seriousness of hydatids, and the willingness to do something about it that he had seen in Northland. All schemes in Northland were voluntary. That was the best way, he said, since it meant that results were achieved through genuine enthusiasm, not through compulsion or inducement.
