CRISIS OVER QUEMOY

Concern Felt In Britain (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, September 25. The leaders of more than eight million British workers are meeting the Prime Minister, Mr Macmillan, today to express their extreme concern at the situation developing between Communist China and the United States. Mr Macmillan agreed last night to a meeting with a delegation from the General Council of the Trades Union Congress. Before he sees the union chiefs, he will discuss the Far East situation with his colleagues at a morning meeting of the Cabinet. The T.U.C. leaders asked for the meeting yesterday and issued a statement on the Quemoy situation. The statement said it was the duty of the Government to do everything in its power to dissuade the United States Government from engaging in a war to defend Quemoy. It should be made abundantly clear that, even if the United States became involved, Britain would not join in, the statement said,
