UNLIMITED USE OF PINE
Forecast For Houses In Auckland (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 24. Unlimited use of pine for building, provided it meets standards of grading and pre-treatment, is likely to be approved by the Auckland City Council at its next meeting. Spokesmen for the building and timber industries tonight said this was a major step forward and forecast that it might well reduce building costs. The works committee is recommending that Radiata pine be permitted throughout all building —untreated pine where untreated sap rimu is now allowed, and treated pine where specifications now provide for heart rimu or treatde sap rimu. The pine used must meet national grading rules and requirements as to size and nailing.
