TOURISTS IN ANTARCTICA
Argentinian Venture
Rear-Admiral G. J. Dufek’s suggestion for tourist cruises to the Antarctic has already been proved practicable by the Argentine Government, according to the American Polar Society’s official journal, “The Polar Times.”
“The Polar Times” says that 200 tourists were taken on 10day cruises in Antarctic waters in January on an Argentine Government snip. Two cruises were made and hundreds of prospective Antarctic tourists were turned away.
The tourists were flown from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, the most southern city of Argentina, to board the cruise ship. They travelled in perpetual da. light and were issued special clothing, boots and headgear to protect thpm from the cold.
