CHOICE OF MILK SUPPLY
Petition Deferred To Next Session
The petition for the restoration of right of choice between raw and pasteurised milk in Christchurch has been deferred until the next session of Parliament, according to Mr G. J. Watson, chairman of the Milk Consumers’ Protection Association. Last week, Mr Watson said, representatives of the association, the Milk Board, milk companies, and Government departments appeared before the health committee of the House to discuss the issue. The hearing was to have been completed yesterday morning “but telegrams arrived postponing the event.” “The keen disappointment of all who looked forward to immediate reinstatement of the right of choice is easily realised,” said Mr Watson. “The public will not gain any comfort from the obvious fact that, to the Prime Minister, his trip abroad is of more importance than completing the business of the session.” The association thanked the 5257 consumers who signed the petition and apologised to the “tens of thousands” who were no‘ able to sign because of lack of time and volunteer helpers. Mr Watson said the association was greateful to all who assisted with the petition.
