U.N.E.S.C.O. SEMINAR IN 1960

Invitation To Hold Meeting In N.Z. (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 24. “New Zealand will extend an invitation to U.N.E.S.C.O. for a regional seminar for South Asia and the Pacific to meet in Wellington in February, 1960. Mr C. E. Beeby, the leader of the New Zealand delegation to the U.N.E.S.C.O. general conference, to be held in Paris next month, has been authorised to make the offer. The Minister of Education (Mr Skoglund) said today that the New Zealand delegation would seek the support of other members, especially Asian countries, for a meeting in Wellington z of people directly responsible for school publications. “New Zealand’s own school publications have won a high reputation overseas, and have already roused considerable interest in a number of Asian countries,” he said. If the plan is approved by the general conference, it is expected that some 26 countries and a number of international organisa- , tions will be represented at the meeting, which will be the first U.N.E.S.C.O. seminar to be held in New Zealand.
