NELSON WAS CREATED A BISHOP’S SEE AND CITY BY ROYAL WARRANT 100 years ago, and the centennial celebrations are now being held. This newly-taken photograph of Nelson shows the Maitai river in the foreground, and the Cathedral on tree-clad Church Hill near the middle of the picture. Trafalgar street, which is bisected by the Cathedral, runs from top to bottom of the photograph. Although Nelson is now celebrating its centenary as a city, its settlement dates back to 1841.
