Resignation Announced WASHINGTON. September 22. Mr Sherman Adams announced tonight that he had resigned as assistant to President Elsenhower. Mr Adams said that he had been besieged “a campaign of vilification” by those seeking ,to remove him from public life, and it was clear these efforts had been intended “to destroy me. and in so doing to embarrass tha administration and the President of the United States.” Mr Adams announced hl* decision in a dramatic national television and radio broadcast He said his action was final and unqualified. “It is not open to reconsideration,’’ he said. Mr Adams said that his resignation was submitted to President Eisenhower at a conference at the summer White House in Newport earlier today.
