Light Snowfall In Otago
(New Zealand Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sept. 23.
Dry weather throughout Otago could cost the country millions of pounds, says Mr G. A. Holmes. Superintendent of In vermay Agricultural Research Station.
At Oamaru grazing was being sought at any price, and light snowfalls in Otago today provided only a “drop” of moisture. “It takes about nine inches of snow to equal one inch of rain, but snow does soak the ground fairly well,” he said. “A little skiff like this, though, won’t mean very much.”
The driving of the last spike on the North Island main trunk railway 50 years ago will be recalled at a short ceremony at Ohakune on November 6. The Minister of Railways (Mr Moohan) will unveil a plaque at Ohakune Railway Station commemorating the event.—(PA.)
