QUALITIES OF GOOD NURSES
Matron Advises Graduates
A seven-point plan for success in nursing was given by Miss Jean Taylor this week when she presented medals to the 60-odd nurses who graduated from the Christchurch Hospital. Miss Taylor is a graduate of the hospital who has since had wide overseas experience with the World Health Organisation and is now matron of Burwood Hospital. The essentials Miss Taylor outlined were:—
Tact—the art of saying a nice thing in the right tone of voice. Tidiness—the right thing, in the right place, at the right time
can save lives. x Taciturnity—point number five in the international code of ethics .of nursing, which expects nurses to hold in confidence all personal information entrusted
to them. Sympathy—a deep understanding and consideration of personal feelings. Gentleness—kindness and soft-
ness of manner. Cheerfulness—-not to be confused with heartiness, gives warmth and encouragement. Charity—service to mankind which ia tha raison d'etre of all buhms. >,
