•‘Tom Brown’s Schooldays,” Thomas Hardy’s “The Woodlanders” and ‘‘The Mayor of Casterbridge,” also ‘‘Laughter in the Next Room” by Osbert Sitwell, are additions to the St. Martin’s Library, published by Macmillan. This series, which specialises in good literature, is a paper-back production and is notable for excellent type with an open body which makes for easy reading. Thomas Hughes’s “Tom Brown’s School-days” is an especially good production since it carries the notably good Sullivan illustrations that appeared first in the 1896 edition. The drawings on either side are from this book.
