(NJ!. Press Association —Copyright, NEW YORK, September 11
Pan-American World Airways announced last night one of its new jets had crossed the Atlantic non-stop in 7 hours 29 minutes yesterday in a trial flight, which it said was a record for commercial flights. The new jet, a Boeing 707-120, carried 19 passengers and a crew of 12. It flew from Stanstead Airport near London. The airline said the previous record by a commercial airliner was set by a British Overseas Airways turbo-prop plane, which flew the Atlantic in 9 hours 32 minutes.
The Boeing 707 is undergoing noise level tests in the United States and abroad as a preliminary to regular commercial use.
