Trout

Sir, —Mr Stokel is recognised as the leading authority on trout by everyone bar the Acclimatisation Society. Some years ago Mr Stokel warned the society against its policy for the Ellesmere trout but they ignored him and took instead so-called expert advice. Now that the fishing is almost beyond redemption Mr Caygill, the secretary of the society, ’has the temerity to ask Mr Stokel for advice. My advice to the society is this: stay with your experts and when the trout stocks are ruined, humbly approach the Stokel brothers to bring order out of chaos.—Yours, etc., B. A GILMOUR.
