ATTITUDE OF CANADA
OTTAWA, September 6. The Canadian Prime Minister, Mr John Diefenbaker, today suggested in the House of Commons that the United Nations intervene in the Formosa Straits crisis. Me said that the good offices of the United Nations might be invoked in the dispute between the Communist and Nationalist Chinese “which had attained threatening proportions.” Canadians would expect their Government to explore every avenue toward settlement of the grave situation. City for Games.—The United States Olympic committee today chose Detroit as the only American city to bid for the 1964 Olympic Games. Detroit was selected in preference to Los Angeles, Chicago and Minneapolis.—Chicago, September 6.
