Women’s Hockey WELLINGTON WINS K CUP

4-2 Score Against Auckland Wellington, after beating Otago in the play-off, met Auckland Town in the final of the Dominion • hockey turnament for the K cup at the Basin Reserve on Saturday morning. Wellington was the better team and had no difficulty in beating Auckland by 4 goals to 2. Whangarei beat Central Otago by 4 goals to 2 to win the Mills Cup in the minor section. Two North-South matches were played in the afternoon. South easily won the minor game by 5 goals to 3. The last game of the tournament was the NorthSouth major game which was a fitting dimax to a week of excellent hockey. The game was drawn 3-all.

Heather Turner was even more impressive at inside-left in the South team than she was at centre-forward for Canterbury She played an outstanding game and outshone many New Zealand representatives in both teams. Her positional play and mastery of the ball were good and she did not lose control. - The first goal she scored was when she received from the circle and put the ball into the net. Her seto|i4 goal was the result of a Canterbury effiort. Receiving a neatly-placed push shot, from Sally Comer deep in South’s territory, she sped up the field, and beat P. Foster, the New Zealand goalkeeper. Turner is only 18. Sally Comer played her usual sound game at centre-half. She was not as spectacular as Turner, but nevertheless proved her worth in setting her forwards on attack. She worried the opposing centre-forward throughout the, match, and gave her no chance for a breakaway. On deep defence she repeatedly saved her side. .
