SENTENCE FOR ROBBERY

WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. Carl Bernard Buckley, aged 32, a workman, was sent to prison for 18 months when he appeared for sentence before Mr W. H. Carson, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Wellington on a charge of robbery. It was stated by the police in evidence last week that he knocked a middle-aged woman down in the Basin Reserve and stole her handbag containing a few shillings in money. Buckley’s offence was one of the most serious crimes on the criminal calendar, said the Magistrate.
