Random Reminders For Whom The Bell Tolls Today is an important one in most Christchurch homes, for today the school bells throughout the -city will ring their cheerful message recalling to primary school children that life is real and fairly earnest. But before the hundreds of freshly-scrubbed faces are turned schoolwards, households will have to suffer their tri-annual upheaval. This is brought about, at the end of each holiday period, by'the discovery that nothing can be found. Little Johnny’s schoolbag has not been since since he used it to store worms for a nature study lesson and then forgot about it, just before school broke up. A pencil case is found doing duty propping up a broken window sash; someone cannot find a leftfoot shoe and someone else has three of them.

These are crises which even the classified advertisements in “The Press” cannot help resolve, in the minutes left before school time.
