ALLEGATIONS OF THEFTS
Remands Granted
Norman John Philp, who appeared in the Magistrate’s Court' before Messrs W. W. Laing and E. J. Bradshaw, J.P.s, on Saturday, was remanded to September 4 on a charge of stealing an amplifier unit valued at £lO, and biscuits, sweets and cigarettes valued at £2l 19s 9d, the property of the Canterbury Rugby League Schoolboys’ Board of Control. Bail was allowed.
On a charge of stealing £l9 from the Civic Cycle Company. John Alexander Laloli, aged 20, was remanded to September 4. Bail was allowed at £so,' with one surety of £5O. Bail was refused Vincent John Wright, aged 31, when he appeared on a charge of the theft of £250 worth of goods, the property of the United States Government. He was remanded until today. Brian John Raven, aged 18, was remanded to September 4, on a charge of stealing 6s worth of pastry from Birdseye Foods, Ltd. Bail was alloAyed at £5O, with one surety of £5O. James Walter Jamieson, aged 30, was remanded in custody to September 4, on a charge of stealing goods to the value of £7, the property of Alfred O’Malley.
Cattle Investigation.—Reports alleging overcrowding in the recent cattle shipment from New Zealand to San Diego, where being investigated, said the president of the New Zealand Federation of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Mr G. M. Spence), on Friday.— (P.A.)
