SCHOOLBOYS’ GAME
South Island Beats North
The South Island schoolboys’ Rugby League representatives won the annual inter-island match, played at the Show Grounds yesterday. After leading by 10 points to 0 at half-time. South island held on to win by 15 points to 6. South Island fully deserved its win. playing far more constructively and making fewer mistakes. The South players were also very * quick to capitalise on the North Island’s errors and scored several of its tries from them. A number of outstanding players were produced. The New Zealand side, which was announced after the game, was chosen from performances right through the week and not from the one match played yesterday. In this respect one player was named in the New Zealand side although he did not nlay in the inter-island match. Chosen for the North Island side. T. Tarawhiti had to withdraw because he did not wish to play on a Sunday. Nevertheless, he fully earned his place in the New Zealand team.
For South Island M. Manderson (two) and N, Adkins scored tries, tv/o of which were converted by B. Hannah, who also kicked a penalty goal. North Island’s points n ame from tries by E. Woolsey and K. Hicks The teams were:—
