(Rec. 8 p.m.) PARIS, August 30. The French Cabinet, meeting under General de Gaulle, today approved new measures to combat the Algerian terrorism which’ has cost the lives of four policemen and a soldier in Paris and sent up millions of gallons of oil in flames in attacks over the last week.
A communique* read by the Minister of Information ' (Mr Jacques Soustelle) said the Ministers had approved measures already taken by the Interior Minister (Mr Emile Pelletier) and had decided to put at his disposal “the extra means necessary.”
Many of the new measures are being kept secret, but troops are known to be aiding police and gendarmes in guarding strategic points throughout France.
The last oil tank still burning at the Mourepiane depot near Marseilles since last Monday’s sabotage attacks exploded today It contained 219,980 gallons of petrol police said. There were no immediate reports of casualties as a result of the explosion. A sabotage attempt was foiled last night when a guard at the Esso-Standard Depot at Port Saint Louis du Rhone challenged two men approaching a petrol tank. They escaped after he fired on them, police said.
