“BETTER HOMES WEEK” MAY BECOME ANNUAL FEATURE
‘Better Homes Week,” which Will open today, is ■ likely to become an annual trading feature, said the president of the New Zealand Retailers’ Federation (Mr A F. Thomas, of Nelson) yesterday. During the next week hundreds of shops throughout New Zealand will be displaying the latest devices, materials and furniture to encourage people to make a special effort to give their homes a new look. ‘‘Home improvement has a fascination for every home lover, and spring cleaning has been
synonymous with good housekeeping for many a day,” said Mr Thomas. ‘‘This spring the federation nas taken the initiative in trying to introduce to New Zealand the kind of national promotion outside the fashion field which has been very popular in America for many years. ‘‘The federation has enjoyed excellent co-operation from manufacturers of home equipment. In recent years considerable progress and development has taken place in the production of home appliances in New Zealand, and these now constitute the bulk of the merchandise to be featured.” The manufacturers join with the retailers in ‘‘Better Homes Week.” It was a promotion which was bound to find favour with the buying public, at a time when thoughts turned towards home improvements and the creation of better living conditions, said the president of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr G. W. Lane).
